HISTORY ►

August wasn't even three years old when his parents handed him over to this grandmother. Alabama could provide a simple life for a child that Vegas could never offer, and in the end, it may have been for the best. But life was not simple living in this rural farm town, especially being an only child. In his life there, town was always boring. It was a bible belt district, the kind where local churches often knocked on their door to invite them into God's House. His grandmother's face would immediately flip like a switch once they turned their backs. And once the house was emptied of their preaching, their booklets ended up in the trash. It wasn't that she hated religion. She wasn't a godless woman. August knew she read her bible and the house had always been littered with crosses and angels in subtle ways. Sometimes he wondered why she didn't go church, why the adults he'd meet once Sunday School was over, would ask him where his grandmother was every Sunday. They weren't the only people to ask about his grandmother.

There were a few times August found himself stuck at the top of the stairs, looking down through the railing as his grandmother slammed the front door. They weren't religious people at all. They were nicely dressed men, some in camo uniforms, others in fully dressed suits. Sometimes they'd notice August sitting at the top of the stairs, but they only ever flashed him a smile once in a blue moon. Michel, the farmhand that rented the lot in the back of the house, would often show up asking if Marlene was alright. But seeing the tension between her and the agents were enough to make him shoot a glance at August and notion him to help with physical labor.

His grandmother was fine. He heard they were just agents from the bank inquiring about the farmland. They were looking to buy it, but his grandmother wouldn't budge. It worried him... But at the same time, he could see why she wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. August grew up raising cattle, shoveling manure, tilling land and horseback riding. Farming had taken over so much of his childhood that throughout his education, he had to transfer a few times until he was eventually home schooled. But his friends did visit. One being Samantha, a girl he had been friends with since the 7th grade. She caught frogs with him in the summers following and wanted to be enlisted in the army one day, just like her aunt Sharon. August on the other hand, found interest in being a doctor. The human body fascinated him, so did chemistry and physics.

The last two years of high school ended his home schooling, and August's interests barely changed with the new setting. While most adolescent teens would be off in an abandoned gas station talking about sex and drinking alcohol their parents would kill them for drinking, August was busy with the usual farm life and cramming for a future in medical. Samantha was now dating the quarterback from their high school's team and trying so hard to forget her own dreams and aspirations. His other friends, not as close as Samantha, relocated. Daryl was moving to Virginia, Matthew was one year ahead and had already graduated and was going to college for a career in journalism. Olivia stopped talking to August once Samantha started dating, last he heard of her, she was a lesbian and secretly a wiccan. August found himself being the target of bullying since the start of the school year. Gay for not bragging about his sexual prowess, for pushing away a girl who tried to kiss him instead of taking advantage. He only had one year to endure it, he reminded himself. Only one year.

Less than a year passed and the first two acceptance letters came back, both apologizing that he didn't make the cut. He could have sworn his hands were shaking when he found out. There was no darker feeling than the sinking weight in his chest. It wasn't that he didn't possessed the skill. He knew he had the potential to make it in a medical field. When the last three letters came back, he got two acceptances. Both were from colleges he had really wanted to attend. They provided some of the best medical in the country. However, there was a concern. The money to attend these colleges far exceeded what he could possibly afford. August decided that if he really wanted to make his dream a possibility. He wouldn't mind joining the military if it meant getting that degree. He signed up and soon found himself packing his things to study abroad.

College was not easy for him, especially the first two years. He was in a medical degree that pulled so much of his attention that August found himself missing birthdays, even forgetting his own age at one point, and tearing apart his intimate life. Studying had become his life now, or the center of it. In time, most of his classmates would stop him on his way to class, asking for advice or tutoring. By the end of the four years, he was ready to make something out of his degree and possibly return for further education. But then he received a call, a recommendation from a teacher.

Commandos was a military school that offered a better chance at advancing pass his bachelor's degree. Knowing that he could benefit from their training, August took the opportunity to apply for schooling. As he waited on a response, he returned home to the farm to pick up on lost time. He saw a few old faces he hadn't seen in a long time. Samantha apparently had made up her mind and enlisted in the army like she had originally planned. Michel was still farmhand, grandma was still healthy and able to kiss her teeth when the Jehovah's witnesses knocked at the door. Something told him that he was going to miss it all very soon. He wasn't wrong. The letter arrived, accepting him into Commandos to further his nursing education and issuing him into the basic training program.

PERSONALITY ►

Positive  || Loyal, Observant, Patient
Neutral   || Dry, Mellow, Sensual
Negative || Workaholic, Dull, Unforthcoming

Nothing annoys August more than an unbalanced schedule. In college, he found it hard to establish healthy deadlines when his social life, physical maintenance and finals were all knocking at his door. He made it work, somehow. But he learnt more about himself in the process. He has always been the responsible kind since he was young, feeling that ruthless behavior does nothing but make more of a mess for the future. However his colleagues would say he's a tight-ass. No funny bone in his body. Always serious and rarely breaks a smile. In his dedication however, he is extremely loyal to those he feels he can trust. Let him down once and his loyalty is something you will need to forge from scratch. Once it's established, there's a lot he can offer that was never obvious in the beginning.

He grew up dealing with animals throughout his childhood. It wasn't only the animals that he learned to be sensitive towards, but humans as well. After all, there's not much of a difference. Humans can be masters at hiding pain and can be just as stubborn to deal with. And though animals may not outright talk English, they spoke in their own language. It was a language August had to be proficient in, and with spending so much time among them, he's come to understand the body language that controlled so much of his daily life. This resulted in his observant nature toward human behavior. He's learnt to tell when someone's being shady, to read their thoughts just on the brief glance over their shoulder or the stiffness of their gait. It was one thing that annoyed most people, he always knew when something was wrong.

Likes x Dislikes

  • Loves country or 80's music
  • His grandmother and the farm...
  • Work, training, sharpening his accuracy
  • Organizing, cleaning, domestic work
  • Gardening and farming, ranching
  • Wasting food, ingredients or medicine
  • Underestimation of farmers and hardworking people
  • When people use money for power
  • When something is applied wrongly
  • Ruthlessness, pure carelessness

EXTRA ►

  • No matter where, there will always been a mop in the same area as August for some phenomenological reason. He is not aware of this mop and if anyone becomes aware of it, he will ask if they're feeling ok... He has no connection with this mop. It is an average mop in every essence of the word. I am not sure why, but the mop is always there.
  • August joined the botany club in college. There was only three members: him, the physics professor and another classmate a year ahead of him.
  • Although not mentioned, August would visit a shooting range with his grandmother and they went hunting season frequently. She taught him on a regular basis how to properly hold a rifle and how to aim. His marksmanship was already natural before he entered Commandos training, as his grandmother has served for a long time.
  • His grandmother was a pilot for secret operations back in her day. No connection to Boa or Commandos, but instead for the passage of important officials like scientists and researchers who held confidential information. Information on the level of skin regeneration and creating organic functioning body parts.
  • Before she became a pilot, August's grandmother has fought in the special forces.
  • August, even before he knew he wanted to be a doctor, has delivered calves and foals and brought other farm animals into the world. He has also nursed injured animals to health, giving them proper splinters and medical aid to assist them.
  • Rarely noted, August's parents are alive and do live a wealthy lifestyle still. He has seen his mother on talk shows promoting her book on economics. His mother was always an entrepreneur, while his father was an investor and businessman. Their companies are linked to insurance and medical supplies.
  • In college, he discovered that he has a younger brother who essentially has replaced him. However, he doesn't know his parents enough to feel anything about this. He wishes them well, but does not desire to care any further about strangers. Besides, his grandmother has been like his own mother all his life.
  • He's impartial to wealth. Money is good, but he feels it can also be a burden. He's comfortable as he is and wouldn't wish it any other way.

RELATIONSHIPS ►

  • MARLENE [Grandmother]

    In spite of him knowing that she's his gram, he still feels and considers her a mother. She's watched over him since he was a baby and feels so little recollection with his own folks. Most who hear of her depict her as sweet and loving, the kind that bakes cookies to fatten you. They're not too wrong, however her love is a tough kind of love with its own moments of recognition. Her voice was strict and cold sounding, harsh at times but August knew that behind her resting bitch face was someone who cared and wanted him to succeed in life. Michel would watch the farm for Marlene while she took August out for hunting. He could remember the press of her fingers under his elbow, guiding his arms higher for a better aim. Her skill at catching a fast moving rabbit always astonished him and by the end of the day, he realized he knew so little about his grandmother. Yet she was like a hero to him. He wanted to be like her in so many ways. Although he gave up on that a long time ago, part of him still feels like he lives in her shadow.

  • I donno lmao.... looks at my hands sullenly...
